They find it difficult to understand how America's very power, in and of itself, could be a cause for concern, fear, and distrust.

But those same people are vocal in their mistrust of the American Government, and go ballistic at the thought of the government having more arms than the populace. You'd think they would understand that the rest of the world is a bit uneasy with the idea of one country having a disproportionate amount of strategic and tactical weaponry.

Actually, I think that plenty of Americans understand how other countries could be anxious about American power. What they find more difficult to understand is how, after we rebuilt Europe and Japan, protected Western Europe against Soviet domination, and spent billions on foreign aid, there can be such a thing as virulent anti- Americanism.......
