ANYONE can do this. After all we interned JAPANESE Americans. We could have killed them (and WE had a Constitution that should have protected them), but we weren't scared enough to actually do it. The Germans were scarred (and I mean scarred, not scared- although they were scared too) enough as a people, to be able to do what they did. It doesn't make the Germans any different from us. Their cultural heritage helped- that Teutonic blood lust thing that you see in Wagner is pretty handy for whipping up zeal- but we've seen similar American propaganda- and God knows we've done horrible things in America. The creation of Panama, the Indian wars, and massacres, and the reservation system, the Civil War, the bombing of Japan- all horrible, and of course there are so many more instances of horrible things in our past.

People with any kind of zeal for anything are capable of creating horror. Give me apathy any time. Zealotry Kills. I want a bumper sticker that says that.
