Bruce, in the beginning I drank because I liked the sensation I got from being "tight". Then I found that when the pressures of a family business weighed heavily, I could escape their sting through alcohol. After a certain time of habitual drinking heavily, the physical addiction begins to take over, and your body actually screams for it. I don't consider business pressures, handled poorly by me, to be mental or psychological. It took a mental decision but, was not a result of mental malfunction. I just made a poor choice in dealing with it. Alcoholism is NOT a disease, because it requires a conscious decision to take a certain path. Psychological treatment has proven to be ineffective in helping alcoholics. All it takes is someone who has been there to let you know there is a way out, and a great big helping of the Grace of God. BTW, those who think stopping the drinking cycle is just a matter of will power, are fools. To prove my point, I have asked those that believe that way, to try and keep a drunk away from a drink. They will see the ultimate in will power displayed. ~H~
