i think here a stock has to be > 3 bucks b/4 you can use it for margin purposes. i also think they can sell everything on you if you are in the red, not just one stock to put you in the black.

i often see people on the phone at the discount brokerage, cursing and asking who the president of the firm is. i sense they've been sold out, and of course, they get lousy prices for their securities. the president, in these situations is always 'out'
