Buck, Lots of chatter around here concerning impressions. As far as I know, an "impression" is defined as any page request that is entered in a website's log file. In your case, a refresh of the same page would trigger a request for the same HTML file or page and would then be entered into the site's log file. So, you are generating more page views or impressions. I am actually "in the business" of tracking my own company's audience/activity growth in terms of unique visitors and page views/impressions as director of strategic planning and market research. Let me tell you...it's a mess...and it's a mess for every net company right now. There are no industry standards for tracking this activity whatsoever right now...several third party services (such as Media Metrix and NetRatings) that use panel based measurement (which is highly inaccurate) and several software companies that allow you to track your site's activity via log files or "packet sniffing" technology (Accrue, AndroMedia, NetGenesis, etc). My company uses both...and the discrepancies are WIDE. When I see companies reporting their quarterly page view impressin growth I laugh...god knows they are using a combination of reporting methodologies in order to communicate the best growth story. Problem is, they can get away with it now...nobody is smart enough on the street to trully look into these numbers at the most granular level. Hell, I am an expert in this area and I can't even accurately do it! Anyways, what I am trying to get at is, it should be quite interesting to see how GMST tackles this problem...would really like to know how they plan on tracking this activity. KY P.S. Gee, any openings at GMST? :)
