ed-- yes he has just caused the cost of borrowing to rise by 20% and that will compound. The credit card companies have started raising rates on previously made balances. They borrowed to pay with cheap money and are now chargibg a higher rate on old and new balances. Remember in '87 it was Uncle Al that caused Black Monday and the crap that followed. He raised by 1/2 twice and BINGO! That, IMO, is the reason he only raises in 1/4 point increments today,, but he must realize he can do the same thing again. If he is already aware of that then he is intentionally attempting to drop the mkt in a big way-- just trying to do it slower,,
