Binx and Thread,

Went to BestBuy last night with my family.
They have a new display for Internet audio devices.
This includes the following...

***Rio!
***Rio 500!
***RCA Lyra (32MB and 64MB)
***Rave MP
***Sony Digital Walkman (64MB Magic Gate)

There is a label on the Sony boxes that states the owner must have the OEM version of Windows 98 factory installed on their PC for the device to be successfully synched. I thought that was quite peculiar.

I still believe that the Cassiopeia E-100 ($399.99) is a good buy if you like to tinker and want a more complete multimedia experience. I have been trying to lose some weight and my Casio follows me to the gym each day.

The biggest seller (based on the big gap in the shelf space) is the Rio! 500. Seems like the price points are otherwise too steep for the target population. Good news is that there is a SanDisk 32MB SmartMedia display included in this section of the store. This area is seperate from the digital photography site.

I stopped by the digital camera showcase. Olympus is now totally sold out. The 450zoom was a really hot ticket, but has been taken out of production according to those I have spoken with. No cameras supporting the chewing gum-like Memory Stick were visible. The floppy Mavicas were displayed, but are about 4 times the size of some of the sexier digital cameras like the Canon A50 and S10. Best of all, the SanDisk display was totally depleted except for the 80MB cards (priced at $205.00) and one or two 8MB cards. The SimpleTechnology and Lexar displays are getting a lot of traffic by default.

ImageMate was totally sold out. To their credit, SanDisk also has a starter kit on display that contains a 16MB SmartMedia or CF card, a USB ImageMate, a camera case and a bunch of other digital camera necessities.
Nice to see it!

SanDisk also has 8, 16, 32 and 64MB SmartMedia for sale, although we know they are basically just private labelling the Toshiba cards. Even if they make no money on these sales it does help to boost the SanDisk trademark.
