Armin, have you or have you not read my post? let me repeat again: i did NOT make a value judgment regarding any of the possible contenders (except for calling Gore "wooden"). i merely said that McCain et. al. project a certain image, and tried to deduce from that as to how the stock markets performance might influence preferences of the voting public.
if we have continuity (i.e. stock market mania continues unabated) the candidates most closely associated with continuity will stand a better chance. if we have a major break in the markets and consumer confidence takes a hit, change (i.e. McCain) will likely be in demand.

I think the first wife issue should be left aside.

I do have a problem with the Lincoln Savings affair. I come to grips with it by considering he was one of five boneheads that tried to assist Keating and supposedly all they did was to push for an answer in a timely fashion as opposed to riding roughshod over regulators to obtain an inappropriate or ill conceived result. I think it could have been a legit action by a senator, but in any event was a far lesser offence than pushing through the execution of a retarded man for political purposes. A retarded man that was saving his last meal pecan pie as a treat for after his execution. And guess where I come down on executions - Myth claims I am to the right of Atilla The Hun.

He wasn't one of those "largely to blame" for the S&L debacle. If you think so, you have no clue how that came about. And if you want to whack everyone associated with the S&L debacle, you will be looking at millions of people, the majority of which stand in front of McCain in the blame line.

In any event, it looks like we many not have to be concerned about any of this if things keep going like the talking heads seem to think they will.
