Store visit yesterday, as usual, have observed that traffic continue to be the same. Students, young wife with children and senior citizens were the customers. Traffic at the parking lot is 60% full. Visits are about 20 minutes; mostly small purchases.
As compared to Bradlees, which is a bigger store; AMES has less customers and less volume of business. Bradlees is brighter, about double the luminance. Same shiny floor. But the price points at Bradlees is better. Helps are friendly. Managers are on the floor.
Obviously, AMES has to be more alert on price points, from the headquarters, to observe local traffic and competition. Too cheap is bad for business; some cheaper will get more customers. Too many cheap items turn people off. Experiment with better quality products in limited quantity may improve customer crowds.
Some expenses have to be added such as adding alternate rows of new brighter florescent lights. The lights were too spread out at AMES Natick store.
