Dazzle Introduces DV-Editor as PC-Based Editing Companion for Rapidly Growing DV Camcorder Market; Provides DV Enthusiasts an Editing System for Less Than $100

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2000--Providing DV camcorder owners with a comprehensive and easy-to-use digital video editing system, Dazzle announced today the Dazzle DV-Editor, enabling DV camcorder owners to use their PCs to edit, preserve and share their high-quality videos.

The DV-Editor package, which includes a FireWire(TM)/IEEE 1394 PCI adapter card and powerful editing software suite, is the first in its category to be priced less than $100.

"With the recent upsurge in the consumer digital video market, we wanted to offer DV camcorder owners a cost-effective solution to edit and share their home videos with friends and family using their home PC," said Prem Talreja, vice president, marketing of Dazzle.

"At a price point of under $100, the DV-Editor is a perfect accessory to a DV camcorder, allowing users to edit unwanted scenes from their video, as well as add titles and transitions before recording it back to tape."

Increased sales of DV camcorders reflect the growing consumer demand for higher quality digital formats. The latest DV camcorders were designed specifically to connect to personal computers via an industry standard FireWire/IEEE 1394 connector.

The ease of connection between the PC and camcorder is expected to increase the use of digital video for CD-ROM storage, DV editing, video e-mails and streaming media for business and personal Web sites.

The new Dazzle DV-Editor features:

-- PCI Adapter Card with 3-FireWire(TM)/IEEE 1394 Ports -- The

DV-Editor card is easy to install and includes three ultra-fast

FireWire/IEEE 1394 ports. Only one of these ports is required to

connect the DV camcorder to the PC. The additional bonus ports

provide plug-and-play connectivity for other FireWire/IEEE 1394

compatible peripherals.

-- Video Editing Software -- DV-Editor includes a customized version

of the Ulead VideoStudio 4.0SE software, used to control the DV

camcorder from the PC and provide advanced editing functions

including transitions, titles and special effects. Unlike other

products, DV-Editor lets users preview the incoming video in DV

quality, then capture and edit the video in the same DV format.

-- Special support for MPEG Format -- A unique feature of the

DV-Editor is that it allows users to convert (transcode) their DV

video to the highly compressed MPEG1 or MPEG2 video formats. By

achieving a compression ratio of 10 to 1, the DV-Editor may be

used to free up hard disk space and to efficiently produce

presentation CDs or videos for e-mail and the Internet.

Dazzle DV-Editor is immediately available in retail stores nationwide and sells for suggested retail price of $99.99.

To ensure compatibility between leading brands of 1394-enabled DV camcorders and personal computers with Microsoft Windows 98 and Windows 98 second edition operating systems, the DV-Editor includes the DV-Connect Windows Driver Model camcorder drivers (software), which have been licensed from Texas Instruments to Dazzle.
