McCain would stand a greater chance of losing.

Whether that is true or not doesn't alter the fact than McCain is the weaker candidate or that Dems are actually pushing votes for McCain.

A scandal-plagued Gore should rather run against a scandal-plagued McCain, neutralizing a big potential issue. It's bizarre that the most ethically-challenged candidates are running against their records and for "reform".

Should he be successful in stealing the Republican nomination from Republicans, McCain is the candidate most likely to self-immolate, especially once the media that built him turns on him in the run-up to his loss in November.
