Which may not be a bad thing. The social tension functions as a powerful motivator. Isn't it remarkable that the new heroes are the wunderkind? They don't credit upbringing or social class or Ivy League alumni networks for their success; instead they credit entrepreneurship and aggressiveness. If kids can drop out of college to form an Internet startup and do well, they send a message that anyone can do it.
