ZUMA.

Who will Zuma target? Here's a website that lists the fastest supercomputers in the world- who made em, and who owns em- nice pictures, too. I hope Noam drops a few names in the CC.

geocities.com

My prediction, based on the fleeting exposure to the new web site (and I hope they do something about the graph paper background), is that ZUMA gets announced as the fourth official start-up at the CC Tues .

<<Any indication they weren't shipping at capacity?>>

The company admitted in August 1998 that they had missed a product upgrade cycle on the line of switches. The commoditization of low end, low interface switching came much faster than they expected.

They are now introducing new products like the optiswitch line. In addition, the BIG new products - Red-C, Zuma, Aranea, Metro Fusion, Linux Router, all are nearing the end of lengthy trials, but are not yet producing major revenue.

That is why networking earnings have been flat. This will change in another quarter or two. Right now OA is the star.

<<Where was it suggested that Optical Access would be spun off? If you look at the Web site, MRV = Optical Access. The start-ups clearly listed in the last CC are New Access, Charlotte's Web, and Hyperchannel. Zuma is mentioned as a potential spin-off, not Optical Access. >>

from Q4 conference call, in response to JP Morgan analyst:
"OA spinoff is in process- will update"

<<What are the real revenue generating products?>>...also from Q4 cc notes:
"OA will have OC192 modules w/in next 4 months." (btw, this is probably one of the things they are waiting for in doing their ipo) and, it was stated "24.5% of revenue came from optical"....
also, regarding OA... stated, "tip of the ice-berg in deployment. Q3 volume was similar to entire '98 year. growth by a factor of five over next few years. current customers include CSCO, NT, EXTR, FDRY and Alcatel....
etc, etc, etc...
they have been very vocal about OA's resurgence...with the increase in production facilities, i don't see any way OA will disappoint for the Q... further, i'd think they'd want to show blow out #'s for OA going into an ipo... OA's #'s, this Q, are VERY important.
