...wouldn't call the Nikkei untradable

My mechanical trading algorithm, while very successful with the INDU, SPX, and Russell2000, has performed poorly with the Nikkei over the last decade. It seems to me that the Nikkei just can't build up enough momentum to give good buy/sell signals for my indicators. Maybe it's just a weakness in the algorithm.
