Here ya go..

This car has been a great car. I've been really excited about owning this car and how well it performed last year. I think it will be a great car next year as well.

You buy the car.

30 days later you hear the guy who sold it to you telling a friend that the cars engine needs to be rebuilt and it will cost you 20-30% of the cars value to repair. BUT, he says to the friend, that once that's done (which will take MONTHS) the car should have a great year.

I think 4Q will be just as great as the company said. It's the misleading statement tying in the great 1999 with another great 2000. Having earnings moved down from $.55 to $25 and $.25(?) to $.05(?) is not a great year, especially when you need to have an INCREDIBLE second half to beat 1999's earnings.

Regarding investors wanting a press release to answer questions etc..

What THQI SHOULD HAVE SAID IS..

"We had a great 1999 and our line-up for 2000 looks even better.. blah blah blah.. We are adjusting our earnings outlook for 2000 to be more heavily weighted in the second half due to.."

And what the hell was up with THQI being #4 on the list of developers?

I have nothing else to say and it's not worth wasting the time here. It's a beautiful holiday weekend!

Enjoy!

RRanney, it isn't the contents of the press release that constitute the hype. In and of themselves the statements in the release were not false. But it is the rather peculiar fact that not long after it THQ suddenly discovers that Q1 and Q2 were going to be bummers. That is what calls into question management's integrity. And may subject them to liability. Certainly there was no hint that anything was amiss in the press release. And therein lies rub. Was the deteriorating situation in Q1 and Q2 suddenly discovered? If so, it suggests that management was asleep at the switch. And if not, and they knew Q1 and Q2 were going down the tubes, then they certainly, imo, were under an obligation to say so at the time of the press release.

Sigmund, please reread the press release announcing the class action. To participate, you must have bought (and perhaps sold, I don't recall) within the specified period. The fact that you were merely a shareholder during the period leaves you out in the cold.

Playstation2 website shuts down!

Buried in the business section of the Friday NY Times was a tiny article on Sony's Playstation2 website. You can pre-order there or get updated information. 500,000 people tried to get access to the site within a short period of time. The site shut down.

Folks, forget Greenberg's dour warnings of industry down cycles. Production and sales cycles are getting shorter and shorter across many industries. The demand is huge.

Forget this lawsuit nonsense. Milberg and Weiss still need to find a lead plaintiff, and they also have to make a prima facie case. If THQI stock price recovers, the case will disappear.
