Hi,

I think that the article below will partially explain the price drop.

<<EDS Gets $54 Million Penalty
February 19, 2000 9:05 PM EST

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ A civil jury has levied a $54 million award against Electronic Data Systems Corp. over a failed $300,000 deal to market a computerized shorthand system.

By a 10-2 vote, jurors concluded Friday that the Plano-based information giant founded by billionaire Ross Perot had committed breach of contract and fraud in its dealings with two men who developed the system for use by court reporters. Perot sold EDS in 1984.

``EDS respectfully disagrees with the findings of the jury,' EDS corporate spokesman Reed Byrum said. He said the company would appeal.

In 1996, EDS signed an agreement with Jerry Lefler of Coppell and Larry West of Dallas to underwrite a product called the Impactwriter. EDS bowed out of the deal nine months later.

Lefler and West said EDS made false promises to get them to sign the deal then canceled the project when they refused to accept less-favorable terms. The men said EDS had agreed to invest in the project over five years and to share profits.

An EDS lawyer said the company had only agreed to build 200 shorthand machines for $300,000 as a feasibility project. EDS lawyers also said the company shouldn't be required to pay damages because there was no proof the shorthand system would have made money.>>
