In the real world, that is what happened: after enough years passed, Israel did establish ties to Germany, as the United States did with both Japan and Germany after World War Two. It's called "making peace" after a war. Individuals may still harbor ill feelings ( I knew and know many good men who served in World War Two who still refer to "krauts" and "japs"), but the most mature among them acknowledged the need to normalize relations with the post-War generation of Germans and Japanese. It is odd that anyone would view McCain's admirable maturity on this issue to be a fault, because he may still resent the treatment he was accorded during the war. It's called "gulping hard, and doing what's right for your nation." John has shown he can do that.
