The President is looked to for moral guidance, something the present POTUS cannot provide. What South Carolina is doing is morally wrong. The President cannot order South Carolina to take down that flag, but he can and should use his "bully pulpit" to denounce destructive and divisive acts of those who yearn for the good old days of Jim Crow.

Bush, the unifier, has enraged Catholics through his shameful appearance at Bob Jones/KKK University. Today, he lost the endorsement of New York's influential Peter King. As is being reported:

Bush strategists were hoping South Carolina would give their man the momentum. McCain countered with an endorsement from Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who had supported Bush but said he was put off by the candidate's appeal in South Carolina, including his visit to Bob Jones University.

King, a Catholic, said America needs a 'conservative who will not yield to the temptation of pandering in ways that support bigotry.'

This is the wrong man for the job. I am aware that more Catholic groups are organizing against this most insensitive candidate for high office.
