It's also my understanding that the FDA and the FTC will be modifying their requirements regarding the labelling of products like Zicam. From now on, clinical studies for over the counter medications and homeopathic remedies will only need to involve 5 or less people, preferably from the same household, to demonstrate efficacy. Furthermore, these studies need not be published in a scientific journal in their entirety. Only an abstract need be published since the rest of the material contained in most journal articles is a waste of paper anyway. In this way, the FDA and the FTC hope to speed up the availability of ground breaking medications like Zicam. It's the new and improved fast track approval process.
