re: Asia

From the October 27, 1997 Barron's interview:

"Right now, there is enough evidence of trouble, whether in Southeast Asia,
or in everything connected to the PC [personal computer] market-disk
drives, graphics chips, processor chips, memory chips or the PC companies
themselves -- with the average selling price of PCs actually falling, that it
doesn't look to me like the wait will be interminable from here."

"But evidence of problems had been mounting for a while. The troubles in Southeast Asia, the DRAM market completely in tatters ..."

Bill, I did read the article in Barrons itself, and the reprint from the Cymer thread which I posted is accurate in every detail.

".btw-they had a pushout BECAUSE of all the inventory
customers had,it was part of my reason to be short."

This is unclear. They could have had the order pushout because of the growing stormcolud of economic troubles coming in Asia, which seems to be much the more likely reason. In fact, in the following 6 months many semiconductor equipment manufacturers had such pushouts and the B-t-B ratio declined for months thereafter. Too bad that the real reasons for slamming the stock didn't come out in the interview (although they sure seemed to at the time). If ever I do an interview with Barrons (I've only been interviewed by local newspapers - and I DID check on the accuracy of the quotes before they were printed) I'll keep your advice in mind.

"amyway enough of this" I agree. Again, good luck. Jess.
