Re: Deutsche Telekom Raising Capital for T-Online Expansion

Jochen and Thread- And yet another example of a huge European player, Deutsche Telekom, following similar paths of US carriers. Raising capital for futher expansion of their Internet infrastructure. I hope the offering goes well. And I hope the government pulls out of Telekom as planned. Nothing is better for the consumers than undoing the government monopolies. Europe appears to be embracing that idea.

So maybe European Internet access for the masses will soon become a reality. Pretty good news for Last Mile infrastruture investors. -MikeM(From Florida)

Deutsche Telekom Names Goldman, Dresdner To Lead T-Online Offering

BONN -- German phone company Deutsche Telekom AG said Friday that the sale of shares in its Internet service provider T-Online will be led in part by Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

European investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Benson will lead the offering along with Goldman (GS).

The offer will comprise about 100 million shares and T-Online will list on the Frankfurt stock exchange.

T-Online is Europe's biggest Internet provider, with 4.2 million customers - almost all in Germany.

Meanwhile, Germany's government is expected to sell more of its Deutsche Telekom shares before April, as part of an effort to privatize the company. The government owns about 66% of Deutsche Telekom.

Telecom scene D: anybody who is able to read German and who is interested in LM developments will find a comprehensive collection of articles and data at the following site:
T-Off - welcome.to
"Telecommunication in Germany - Documentation of Problems"
The name of the Web site is a joke on Deutsche Telekom products. All their names start with a T, for instance T-Online (Internet service), T-Mobil (wireless phone service), T-DSL etc.
A recent English article at the site which appeared in Wired:
userpage.fu-berlin.de

For the sake of completeness, here three publicly listed LM suppliers:
Bintec, bintec.de
Teles, teles.de
Adva Optical, advaoptical.de
Adva has a JDSU-like chart:
deuba.teledata.de:9030/db/db.html?timespan=12&sym=ADV.FSE
