mb: "without comment",.....What a gentleman you are. (g) I actually saw the article earlier. Herewith a few comments. Our author sees it as a good situation because: - "it is in bed with Intel". Sure it is. But is Intel backing away from it? Their comments at the "road map" conference sure suggest that they are. - The stock is up because of the announcement of Willamette,....etc). Not true. It was a short squeeze/short panic. The short position had exploded and it was an accident waiting to happen. Incidentally, it is one thing to announce products and quite another to design, produce and deliver same. Intel has been fumbling at the "coppermine" level, never mind these "future" products. RMBS is "for real" because "if you intend on using an Intel platform in late 2000 and 2001, you're going to wind up using RDram......" What nonsense. First of all, that "IF" is a big one, especially as the competition is out in front. Secondly, he presupposes that the competition will stand still while Intel catches up. Not very likely. Thirdly, the author conveniently ignores the fact that Intel is structuring the new chipsets to allow either type of memory to be used. I wonder why. - All of the above is "because Intel says so". Ho Ho Ho. Reminds me of a mother trying to tell her 25 year old son what he should do. Too bad someone hasn't told this fellow that Intel is no longer a monopoly. The rest of this fluff piece is pure and simple regurgitating the company (RMBS) line. Telephone useage? Uh, take a look at the brutal competition and tell me that phone manufacturers are not worried about the price of the components that go into each phone. Mobile PCs? Tell this turkey to check out the power consumption figures on RMBS vrs DDR. - I loved his comment that "a slash in price is in order". Indeed, but how to do? I think a "slash in price" is in order for Bentleys too, but I won't hold my breath. - I loved the "reasonably priced gaming PCs at $2000". Take this lad to a Toys R Us and have him try out any of the kids' game stations,.... then look up the pricing. - Sony will use it. I'm currently digging into the Sony situation,.... as in how much of a royalty will Sony pay to RMBS. Any bets out there that it is next to nothing, just to get a first user up and running? Besides which, that is already factored into the stock price,.... four times over. - I'd love to know the names of the 6 "major memory suppliers" that will be shipping in Q1. Now let's see. February is almost over, which leaves a month. Any bets on this? (g) - And then of course there are the forecasts of higher speeds. Wonderful. But right now, the DDR chips are faster in test. And they too will get faster. Pure company hype. - Graphics cards. I won't even comment on this one. We have some great promoters up here. They could take lessons from the RMBs boys. Best, Earlie
