"GWB has learned from the "mistakes" of his father--he has pledged himself to do what is popular with his rightwing constituency, even when it is clear that such a course of action would be foolhardy."

That's about how I see it. Get elected, whatever it takes. Integrity be damned.

>>Cutting taxes now could well unleash inflation, and would threaten the progress we have made with regard to the deficit and Social Security. It would be an irresponsible act, that would pander to the ignorant and the selfish.

Who's your speech writer, AlGore? What utter nonsense! (Or "udder nonsense" in your vernacular). Even McCain would shudder at such idiocy and we know that he owns the ignorant and the selfish such as they exist outside the Dem Party.

>>Bush, Sr. knew that raising taxes would be unpopular, but did so anyhow in what he believed to be the best interests of the country. That the ignorant and selfish turned on him because of this is no reflection on the man or his judgment.

Ridiculous. He did it because he had no backbone. He allowed the Dems to bust the caps and spending took off. His pollsters told him that he would not pay a price for giving in to the Dems because people would forget and Republicans had no place to go.

And who said that you turned on him?

>>I prefer the principled "loser" to the unprincipled candidate. Silly me.

Very silly. You support the unprincipled loser.
