fwiw I am not buying CSCO at these levels although I still hold it. I am not buying COMS at these levels although I still own it. I not in "love" (your words) with either company or stock and never fall in "love" with any position I hold - perhaps contrary to the way you invest.. er...gamble. And this is the crux of the issue Mehrdad. Most folks invest and investing is much different than what you do which is gamble.

also fwiw the analysts are saying CSCO will likely be the first company to $1Trillion - that's good for a double and while I don't believe it I feel that CSCO is a far more stable investment going forward than the uncertainty that PALM/COMS will bring. That is not to say that PALM/COMS won't go to $120 - simply that there is a much more uncertainty in COMS/PALM than CSCO. There is much more downside risk in COMS than there has been in ages..... I'm still long but will lighten up early next week... maybe even some this week - especially if we see 61.

The big problem with those "ritzy car" comparisons is that, technically, anyone can afford CSCO. No matter how "expensive" CSCO gets, you can always just buy $500 or $1000 worth. You can't meaningfully buy $500 or $1000 worth of a Porsche. Similarly one generally doesn't have to worry about finding a buyer for CSCO stock should the need to raise cash arise. The fact that $1000 might buy only 0.0000002% of CSCO instead of what you might consider a more reasonable 0.0000006%, is something that generally doesn't mean much to a large portion of the investing public.

Fact is, the stock market today is at least part popularity contest. COMS is popular right now because of PALM. Period. Once COMS divests of PALM, it'll essentially be competing with what one poll just declared the most popular stock in the world. I can just about guarantee you that will reflect negatively on post-PALM COMS at least over the next year or so.
