At the moment I have no account with IB so have no experience trading with them.

The open interest should be, AFAIK, irrelevant. The market maker on each exchange where a given option is trading is required to honor the given quote for only a 10-lot, no more. And it should not matter whether there is 3000 that have been traded before that that day at another exchange, and none on the exchange where he is at.

When a new series is opened tomorrow, Tues, for the October options for those in the Jan-Apr=Jul-Oct series, then there is NO open interest when trading begins. AFAIK, each exchange is still expected to honor their quote for only a 10-lot. Once filled, they are free to raise or lower the quoted price.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will correct this info if it is not correct.
