"One of the reasons we recommended against Barrick stock a few years ago
was not only because of its unsavory management, but because of its
participation in real estate via Trizec Hahn"

This is one of the strangest posts you have ever copied - (emphasis on the word 'copied') and the above statement contains an outright lie. Barrick does not own any Trizec Hahn so far as I know. And I think it's also true to say that TH sold its last position in Barrick a couple of years ago.

Munk is chairman of both companies.

News from the Gold Anti Trust Action Organization (GATA)

Today, Chris Powell received word from Senator Joe Lieberman
that the US Treasury has "drafted a response to GATA's letter."

According to Senator Lieberman:

"...currently under review and you should expect a response by Feburary 22."

Does anyone know when and where this article will be made public for viewing ?

James Turk Letter No. 259 "Is There Gold in Fort Knox?"

I read the article and my conclusions are as follows:

1. The Treasury Department auditors did not go to Fort Knox.
2. No count of the bars was done.
3. No bars chosen at random for assaying was done.
4. The Treasury officials just merely checked the ledger statements
that record the weight of Gold reportedly stored in Fort Knox.

My conclusion: No verification was done to determine whether or not
the Gold is actually stored in Fort Knox. Doug ak

Is There Gold in Fort Knox?

At last I have received a reply from the US Treasury Department in response
to my questions about auditing the US Gold Reserves stored in Fort Knox.

The letter was written to my Congressman, The Honorable John Sununu,
by Mr. Jeffrey Rush, Inspector General of the Department of the Treasury.

Here's what Mr. Rush said:

Dear Congressman Sununu:

Your letter to the Department of the Treasury dated December 1, 1999 was.....
