Dell to Enter Small Business Web Hosting - WSJ

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dell Computer Corp (NasdaqNM:DELL - news). will launch a Web-site-hosting operation for small businesses, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

The entrance into the low-margin business comes as some small businesses are turning to providers of Web site hosting to run their electronic-commerce Internet service instead of buying their own computers to handle these jobs, the Journal said.

Dellhost.com is expected to announce the move Tuesday, the newspaper said.

However, the paper said, the move could threaten some of the Internet companies Dell recently began courting. Two weeks ago, Dell formed a unit to sell servers and disk-storage equipment to companies that host Web computers and provide Internet service.

The Web-hosting market is expected to grow to $17 billion in revenue by 2003, up from $2 billion last year, Michael Dell, Dell chief executive told the newspaper.
