When I studied anthropology, one of the things we studied were mores, which are the customs of the people. Interestingly, at least to me, when the French codified the laws of the various regions of France, they were called customs (I can pronounce the French word but I can't spell it.) I don't believe that any anthropologist nor any lawyer, jurist or legal scholar believes that any law, legal system, or set of mores are absolute. That belief seems reserved for popes, emperors, kings, politicians and political philosophers, all of whom are interested in ruling others.
