Outside of a scripted speech, he has shown he is both ignorant of the issues and inarticulate. The speech is not relevant to that.

As a Presidential candidate, you are known by the company you keep. Just look at our reaction to Hillary's meetings with Al Sharpton; many Republicans have said if you meet with Al Sharpton, you must agree with Al Sharpton.

Dubya didn't meet with the Log Cabin Republicans, did he? Why not? Because he didn't care to be seen with them. He didn't want that association. But he would meet with and address a group that teaches that the Pope is the anti-Christ.

It is called lending legitimacy and silent approbation by your presence. Rudy Giuliani here in New York always makes a principled decision not to attend events if he can possibly help it also attended by Sharpton, Farrakhan, Jeorg Haider and others who he feels the Mayor should not be legitimizing by his presence.

It is poor judgment in the extreme to make any sort of address at an institution that is anti-Catholic and which practices racially discriminatory policies. At best, it shows gross insensitivity to the concerns of Catholics and people of color.
