Interesting point!

The hydrogen/hydride solution offers some advantage in that the fuel doesn't require reformation.

But I understand that the battery makers are working on commercialization of technologies that may be able to compete with the energy densities demonstrated using hydrides, and the electronics makers are improving power consumption profiles with better chips.

Then there is the inertia factor. Laptop makers are used to battery technology. Building a mini fuel cell in would do what to warrenty returns? Are their hydrogen outlets in the airport lounges, for the business traveler to recharge.

I would expect that hydrides might be applied in some other forms of mobile power before they see any progress in the laptop arena.
