Mark,

I tried to agree to disagree. Why don't YOU leave it at that?

Now I've got another individual(you) twisting my words, and it's silly.

Either it's fair to say that there are many standards in the industry, or it isn't. I think it's fair to say it just that way. If you think it isn't, fine. But don't twist my words.

Re: "Anything Gilder says that might be wrong should be excused in the name of attempted humor?"

NO.- the below not-withstanding.

Re: Gilder's words were "was finally adopted as an industry standard".

Those words can only be read as a statement of historical fact when taken out of context. Period. Either the context was attempted humor, or it wasn't, IMO. If you want to take statements that are in fact a part of an attempt at humor, as "mistakes," fine- it's not very credible, IMO. His words later in the piece DID speak of the "hope" of becomming an industry standard in Asia in the future, and in a far more serious context.

Now, I well understand the significance of a standard like DOCSIS. Perhaps Gilder really gets it too, do you think? Maybe?

I happen to believe this is strong evidence that you, and others here, wish to go out of your way to find fault with the man. Now that's just my opinion. Nothing makes that more clear, however, than Bernard Levy's BS implying a willingness of Gilder to take credit for the ideas of others(evidenced, he said, by a failure to credit one Paul Green), which he obviously created out of whole cloth in complete ignorance of the extensive credit Mr. Gilder has repeatedly and extensively given Mr. Green. Enjoy your laugh, but I think you don't have a clue as to the nature of your own bias.

As for me, I read Gilders GTR forum sometimes, and truly retch when someone there writes like a mindless soldier. It happens and it's plain as day. But I feel sure MR. Gilder doesn't like it either. Sensing that strongly, I like the guy. But that's just my opinion. I like the guy alot.
Can I feel this way without you twisting me into a mindless robot? If so, thank-you.

Dan B
