>>As for your statement that the auto industry has lagged for decades, besides being untrue, has little to do with personal income in the region.

It's true. Lagged is an understatement. The middle gets relatively poorer as the coasts grow richer. I doubt anywhere in MI is even in the top ten. Bloomfield Hills isn't even a contender. Here's an indicator of wealth:

>>My point was that the small area that Fieger lives in represents a very high concentration of this wealth, and that this area (to my knowledge) was the highest per capital area of wealth in the USA.

The you should have confined your remark to MI. I'm certain you are wrong. That small enclave in CA is richer.

>>Oakland County Michigan has for many years ranked in the top three counties in the country in highest per capital income. The halls at Ford, GM, and Chrysler are filled with guys making 50k a year who are millionaires just from the stock matching plans offered.

Manhattan's enclaves have more of that.

Ok, I just found the 1990 figures.

Fairfield County, CT $26,000
Oakland County, MI 21,000

I find it hard to believe that Oakland even exists within the top 10. I suspect that it falls even lower next Census.

Sorry. If you are talking "rich" and "wealth" you are not talking income. Gates earns no income from his stock in MSFT and a very low executive salary, nor do the McNealy's, Moore's, and other Silicon billionaires. The GM executives earn high salaries, large dividends, but their stock options are worth little. Big hats, little cattle.
