PRESS RELEASE:Agilent Tech Unveils Tech For CDMA Handsets (BW)(CA-AGILENT-TECHNOLOGIES)(A) Agilent Technologies Announces New Miniature Duplexer Technology for CDMA Handsets; Improved Performance, Less Than 10 Percent of the Volume of Conventional Ceramic Duplexers Business Editors/High-Tech Writers SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2000--Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced an innovative, miniature FBAR (film bulk acoustic resonator) filter technology. Initial products will be duplexers for CDMA (code division multiple access) PCS handset applications as a part of the Agilent CDMAdvantage RF chipset solution. These products are on display at the Wireless Symposium/Portable by Design Show, San Jose, Calif., Feb. 22 through Feb. 24, 2000. Conventional ceramic duplexers are among the bulkiest components in a cellular-phone handset. Agilent's FBAR technology enables the creation of miniature semiconductor-based duplexers that can operate in the 500MHz to 10GHz frequency range. While occupying less than 10 percent of the volume of a conventional ceramic duplexer, an FBAR-based duplexer can have better power handling, insertion loss, and selectivity characteristics compared to current surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. This combination of small size and superior performance supports small handset designs, giving consumers compact, high performance phones that meet rigid U.S. PCS CDMA standards, while taking up only a fraction of the space of alternative technologies. "By bringing filtering technology to the semiconductor realm, Agilent's FBAR technology allows our customers to produce smaller phones without sacrificing performance," said Bryan Ingram, manager of Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group RF Business Unit. "We have received very enthusiastic feedback from our customers and expect strong market demand for this technology." Further information about these products can be found on the Web at www.agilent.com/view/cdmadvantage. Availability The new duplexers are currently shipping in prototype quantities for use in a recently announced ultra-miniature phone. Agilent FBAR-based products are expected to become commercially available in the latter half of 2000. About Agilent Technologies Agilent Technologies, Inc.
