The republicans are not going to "defect" to vote for Al. Gore(bringing up 1964 election is a nonsequitur!). If anything, the defection would be the other way round--to a anti tobacco, pro social security, limited taxcut guy who is "wishy washy" on the abortion issue. McCain is much more likely to get the swing voter than Bush Jr. and that's a fact...
