Conference call notes: and <<Isn't it about time for some additional coverage?>>
one of the issues i wanted to address... thought it was very interesting that CS First Boston was on the call. first time i remember them being on. and, they asked questions about optical momentum (not their wording), to which the answer was basically, optical will become a larger % in Q2. look, they aren't ramping up production for nothing!
-FOSI should be neutral to earnings this year (adding over $20mil in revenue) and accretive in 01.
-OA can now offer both passive and active, the olyother able to do this is JDSU. will easily be one of the top 5 optical component suppliers.
-i thought the explanation of what FOSI will add, in terms of fitting into the biz model, was quite interesting...excuse me if i botch what was said, but basically, they said OA's current products "make the beams" and the new FOSI products "move the beams around".
-adds 150k sq ft of manufacturing space.
-labor intensive manufacturing will be moved to mainland china (china loves to do work with companies that add to their infrastructure).
-current FOSI customers include General Inst, Cisco, Lucent, Marconi, etc...
-briefly mentioned OA "public offering"
-RedC booked orders from 3 customers (beating Redback in head-to-head competition for at least one of these).
-Could have sworn i heard him say something about "InReach Family of products...i'm unfamiliar with that one....
-***Linux-OptiSwitch Division***city carriers and multilayer traffic management.
-New Access engaged carriers for DWDM optical networking gear in regional networks
Ramping up, big time...now have 80+ employees and getting customer trials sooner than expected.
Aranea--customer trials before mid-year
Zuma-in validation stage and ***looking to strategic partners
HC-completed funding
-company continues to look for joint ventures (co-investments) when they don't have to give away too much equity.
-LAN writedown seems like it made sense....moving to a less commodity and more profitable optical business focus.
-receivables and dso's should improve in coming quarters.
-Marconi sales should continue to show similar growth patterns.
-optical router with built in WDM cababilities...should hear more details within 2 months.
-CW-called it "on schedule" but some skepticism was brought out by Rao at Gruntal regarding the customer trials being "pushed back".
-CW entering customer trials before mid year and will eventually take the company public... Noam was clearly more excited about this prospect than in the past (regardless of Rao's apathy)
-would not even mention who was advising on the potential spinoffs....ARGH!!!
-"***Red C customers to be announced soon"

I know i missed a TON of info, but hope this helps.... ya'll fill in the missing pieces from the cc...and all feedback would be most appreciated.
