<<Can you name me anybody anywhere that is going to be able to compete with GE in selling home fuel cells to run your home?>>

How about my current electrical utility company? They know where I live, my credit history, my power consumption profile, they have an employee (the meter reader) that drives by my house every month and they are already communicating with me on a monthly basis through their billing system. Seems like they would have a head start if they chose to take advantage of it.

Franz: I didn't do all the research. I got most of my
information from a co-worker who just retired (@55)...
According to him most other companies are licensing tech
from BLDP, but I cannot verify it and he's enjoying sunshine
on a beach now.

There is a BLDP thread in SI so it might be a good idea
to go there for BLDP discussion since most ppl in this thread are more into
computer/communication stuff, which I will stay tuned...

Re: Fuel Cells, GE and PLUG

<<Home fuel cells: PLUG has a commanding lead here. The reason is that they have teamed up with GE. GE is doing the sales and distribution for PLUG (and they take most of the profit). GE is field testing home units this year and will start selling units to the public at the end of this year or early next year.>>

Someone pointed me this site which describes GE's offering:

gemicrogen.com

From the "Description" page:

<<The HomeGen 7000 will be available in early 2001. GE will place a number of pre-commercial systems in 1999 and 2000 for testing and product demonstration purposes. Plug Power is the exclusive supplier and manufacturer of the fuel cell systems comprising the HomeGen 7000. >>
