I had a new Land Cruiser (after a series of later model Range Rovers), and really am much happier with the X5. The S500 is nice, but dated, IMHO. Time for a facelift. Your point about the M5 vs. M3 is well taken. Having the Porsche on the side is the only way to have it, IMHO. Not an everyday car! Italian? The Ferrari 456 GT makes me drool, but the sticker... It's not a matter of buying it, but rather a matter of justifying it. $250,000 drive-out is rich in any man's book. I guess you know you've arrived when it doesn't matter. Perhaps I'm too cheap. I can't imagine it ever not mattering. LoF
