Re: David Katz of Matrix Asset Advisors -- 'a true value investor'...

His performance speaks for itself....

<<David Katz, Matrix Asset Advisors (ABT, ABS, EFX, BOL, MYL, IV, IT, CPQ, MOT)

David's Previous Picks (as of 01/04/00)

ABT down 1.8%

ABS down 14.7%

EFX down 2.0%

BOL down 8.5%

Was a tough month for Value stocks, lots of cheap stocks got cheaper. Typically on Value stocks want to have a 6-12 month time horizon.

Value has been difficult but can make some competitive returns...>>

Hmmm.....What are 'competitive returns'..?? IMO, the ONLY reasonable firm he has has listed is Motorola. Yet, all of his picks from the beginning of January have gone NOWHERE. I have a friend who is running an aggressive growth fund for Strong and he is up around 20% this year (after finishing last year up over 175%). Those that embrace the opportunities in the new economy are rewarded. Those that hold onto outdated 'value investing philosophies' will continue to get burned and deliver very poor results for their stakeholders. Mr. Katz's recommedation of Compaq doesn't hold much water with me. He doesn't have a very compelling track record. Now if Scott Schlozel or one of the other Janus Fund Managers start recommending Compaq that could be different <G>. BTW, I don't expect that to happen anytime soon. A company has to earn their trust.

Best Regards,

Scott
