Yes, we gave them technology and industry, forms of government and commercial law, and they gave us---- traditional cuisine? I am more intrigued with your assertion that Buddhism has made an imprint on modernity. Whether it is marked is another question.....

Re Asian food taking over. It would be more appropriate to say modern Asian food has taken over. First of all, standards of storage and handling have been greatly changed and what you eat has been, in most cases, adjusted for your existing preferences.

I know lots of people who love Chinese food or Japanese food who aren't so crazy about what's actually offered in China or Japan (outside of large hotels and restaurants catering to the visiting classes).

But, hey -- there's a lot of protein in a worm and monkey's good, although strangely sweet.
