QUALCOMM Introduces Globalstar Packet Data Modem

- GSP-1620 Will Enable Manufacturers and Businesses to Communicate with Remote Assets -

NEW ORLEANS ? February 28, 2000 ? QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced a new product for the Globalstar system, a GSP-1620 Satellite Packet Data Modem. QUALCOMM?s Globalstar Packet Data Modem is designed to deliver clear and reliable digital data communications for urban and remote areas, using QUALCOMM?s CDMA technology and the Globalstar Satellite Communications System.

"The introduction of QUALCOMM?s Globalstar Packet Data Modem demonstrates QUALCOMM?s ongoing commitment to ensure that the Globalstar Communications System supports both voice and data applications," said Jerry Beckwith, president of QUALCOMM Wireless Systems. "This product is a significant milestone, because this enables Globalstar to be one of the first satellite systems to offer packet data and Internet services."

The satellite-based Packet Data Modem will provide a reliable, wireless data link to remote locations, where terrestrial wireless infrastructure and landlines are inaccessible or unavailable. In addition to communicating with field equipment, users can also monitor, track, operate, manage and control their remote assets. The telemetry industry of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) will have access to a new product designed to solve multiple applications. Commands may be sent over the Globalstar System in order to change software reporting parameters and reporting of information. QUALCOMM?s Globalstar Packet Data Modem offers customers, OEMs and VARs an opportunity to add additional value to their products. Production quantities are planned for this fall. Accessories include a developer?s kit for accelerated time to market, a diagnostic monitor and a Product Support Tool (PST) for configuring the modem.
