Does someone here know what LSI stands for in the name?

Also, what was LSI's original name/symbol.

My daughter holds some inherited shares in LSI and would like to know for a school project. I'm curious as well.

TIA

Ed

Reasons for today's upgrade by Gregory Mischou:

NEW YORK, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Warburg Dillon Read analyst Gregory Mischou on Wednesday raised his rating on LSI Logic Corp. (NYSE:LSI - news), maker of specialty computer chips, to strong buy from buy and raised his price target to $90 from $60.

-- Shares of LSI Logic were up 4-5/8 at 57-3/4 on the New York Stock Exchange.

-- Mischou said despite a recent strong move to the upside, he thinks LSI remains undervalued given its position in many high-growth communications end markets.

-- said LSI expects communications revenue to grow 60 percent year-over-year in 2000, and to account for 50 percent of total sales.

-- said he believes LSI is trading at a significant discount from a 2001 price/earnings multiple perspective.

-- said given its upside in manufacturing capacity, he believes LSI is beginning to win designs from certain competitors which are supply-constrained.
