Telecomguy, My immediate reaction to LUs OC-192 kickoff is congratulations to them for finally getting a product to market. I see no impact on NT's revenues in the short term.
Both companies are capacity constrained for this product. My question is how does LUs OC-192 compare to NTs product. I remember when Level Three announced the award to NT and saying the NT product was superior to the LU product in all aspects. The LU product will have to be as good to compete.
Having a big pipe is not enough. This competition is more about control than it is about speed. NT promises a product which will allow the transport layer to communicate with the switching/routing layer via a common control system so that carriers can provision bandwidth to points of congestion. With Qtera, NT has a product which reduces the need for conversion from optical to electrical. I have heard nothing from LU indicating their product will have these features.
