I agree.

Hard to believe Intel prematurely bet the farm on RAMBUS...a bigger blunder than the Floppermine launch, IMHO.

Why do you say that the Fl(C)oppermine launch was a blunder? Other than the fact that it was late and the fact that marketing is getting ahead of themselves, Coppermine is an OK chip.

I got to agree that Rambus seems like a lot bigger problem for Intel than cumine. On the other hand, the way RMBS is going, the company will be worth more than AMD in a week or so. I think it has something to do with the magic of markets, and giving the customers what they want. Just imagine what AMD and RMBS would be worth if AMD was pushing it instead of Intel. Cough.

On the Rambus saga, did you see this link I posted a couple days ago? x28.deja.com I can't really judge how close his reading of the situation is to reality, but it is somewhat supported by the high Rambus power consumption relative to SDRAM, along with the fact that you can end up pounding on one chip in a RIMM with RDRAM. I bet there's some great engineering talent pulling out hair on this one, all over the world.

Aside on cumine: the dam seems to have burst, the 800 part is now flooding the market. Available at 3 places on pricewatch! One even has a decent price, maybe, otherwise it's kmine city. rook.pricewatch.com@ctd+3+AND+@contents+PENTIUM*+AND+@contents+III*+AND+@contents+800*&catd=3&cn=Microprocessors+PC&cr=Microprocessors+PC+Pentium+III+800&n=8&CiCodePage=Windows-1252&a=2.
