The problem with trading copper alloy hardness for electrical resistance is that you already gain resistance because you have to put diffusion barriers in. A little resistance gain here, a little there, and pretty soon you've ground away your advantage over aluminum.

Not sure what you mean regarding polishing compound. You always optimize the slurry for whatever it is you want to polish. Usually there's a tradeoff between polishing rate/throughput and uniformity.
