I grabbed the real leaps, the '02 $100s. I'm not sure that '01s ought to be considered leaps at this late date.

I think they are partly complimentary Yeah, Kevin and John are always saying good things about each other (;-)

But you're right-JDSU is a component supplier to GLW, primarily pump lasers for the GLW op amps, and they have a joint venture together. But they also compete in the subsystem business, although with the entire industry being capacity constrained it would be more accurate to say they both offer similar products (but see no reason to actually compete). I have never liked GLW in comparison to JDSU, ETEK (now soon to join) or SDL, primarily because of the conglomerate nature of their business. Raw fiber is over half of their revenues, and that is much more of a commodity business than components (look at the operating margins). Plus they still make glass, catalytic converters, and let's not forget that Dow Corning subsidiary (although that should start helping soon).

I would love to see them sell their components business to SDL-that's a stock I would own.

Well, I was wrong on RMBS today, but right on AOL. Good thing I bought more AOL leaps than RMBS puts. CREE is certainly giving an entry point today, though it might still be early to jump back in.
