Invitrogen IVGN.... Under title: GENUINE GROWTH: Biotech and Medical Companies: our stock was # 1 ranked stock on Investor's Business Daily and our earnings play which had pulled back after a phenomenal run.. #2 PLMD, #3 QGENF was also an earnings play as was #5 JMED and #6 MDCC. CHIR I won't count since it was down after earnings. "Blockbuster stocks come from many corners of industry but they all share a common denominator: long-lasting, rock-solid profit growth".

A perfect end to a well-said article and espouses the best of Market Gems earnings Plays (O'Neill has done it again). When a growth sector suddenly turns hot, a wave of stocks may rush ahead, including those of companies with no earnings.

Investors buy on expectations that these firms will turn out a future profit. As the above table of biotech and medical-related firms shows, ITS NOT NECESSARY TO DO SO. Its the INDUSTRY LEADERS THAT BOAST SUSTAINED OR EVEN ACCELERATNG, profit growth. That is why it was okay to hang onto some of our biotechs and med stocks that turned a profit and not be that concerned about holding through dips. I would be concerned about holding one-day wonders with no claim to fame, saving them basking on the laurels of the "Industry leaders".. They did not mention TEVA although I'd like our TEVA on this esteemed list.
