Tom,

I read From the Analyst 2/22 which discussed GDT. In this report, the analysis stated that the horizontal objective was computed by taking the width of the base going back to 3/99 which was 25 columns wide, then multiplying by box size (2) and 3.

What confuses me is that it was always my impression that the width of the base is measured by the widest number of columns in that base with continuous Xs and Os in a row. I thought that if there was a break in a row with no Xs or Os, that would not be used for a horizontal count.

When I look at the 2 box chart for GDT posted in the report, I calculate the base at 10 columns of Xs and Os beginning in September, 1999. That was the widest number of continuous columns of Xs and Os in one row in the base.

Have I been doing horizontal counts incorrectly ?

I hope my question can be understood.

Thanks,

David
