MeDroogies ... About CPQ current position

>>>All things considered, I think CPQ is getting back into a decent position.<<<

Agree, it seems that people perception of the company changes with the stock price. The cynical remarks you are reading in this thread were not there when the stock was above 30. The most cynical of them was cheering then, but nothing changed except the stock price. Here are some positive statistics about 100K-1.0M servers.

2/23/00 - WORLDWIDE MIDRANGE SERVER REVENUES SHRINK 10% IN 1999, ACCORDING TO IDC THE MARKET WILL REBOUND IN 2000

From the article:

Revenues in the worldwide midrange server market took a dive in 1999, dropping 10% from $17.6 million in 1998 to just under $15.9 million.
---------------
In 1999, the top two vendors in the market, IBM and Hewlett-Packard, experienced 12% and 5% losses, respectively. Both were hampered by aging products, but have taken steps to correct the problem by introducing new products.

The number three and four vendors, Sun Microsystems and Compaq, meanwhile, bucked the market's downward trend. Sun's revenues increased 24% while Compaq's grew almost 18%.
