I'm glad to see you believe in your company's products.

I don't see the "trouncing" of which you speak. I have seen yesterday's products being out-performed by today's, which will undoubtedly lose the race to tomorrow's. Within common generations the race is sometimes hard to call, sometimes not, and the precise nature of the benchmark can be significant to which version of which chip appears faster. But I'm not going to argue benchmarks with you.

How much does a Xeon with 4 MB cache go for, by the way?

On the subject of legacy code, you seem to want it both ways (as does, of necessity, your employer). On the one hand you recognize backwards compatibility as a "gold mine." On the other, I wonder how you'll deal with the price/performance in compatibility mode.

JMHO.
