Prudential-ICICI launches 'PruPhone' service

(Thursday, February 24, 2000)

Our Markets Bureau in Mumbai

Prudential-ICICI which manages close to Rs 4,669 crore in total asset under management has launched for its customer convenience phone assistance called the 'Pruphone service'. Pruphone service will enable existing customers to carry out transactions such as redemption and switches between intra-funds.

In addition to transacting, an investor can also get updated information on his account balance and the details regarding the last three transactions. The effort initiated by Prudential-ICICI to service the existing client base of more than 250,000 units holders is, perhaps, the first time undertaken in the Indian mutual fund industry.

Ajay Srinivasan, managing director of Prudential-ICICI AMC, said "We have set up 20 customer service centers across the country and launched a wide range of products suited to the investors needs. Currently, we have initiated Pruphone services in Mumbai. During the next two months the service will be available across 11 other cities. Also, over the next two weeks we will despatch to all our investors customer identification numbers (CIN) which is a pre-requisite for operating the Pruphone services."

Suraj Mishra, vice-president & head marketing, added, "Our intention of introducing Pruphone services was to give an option to the existing investor to switch and redeem his units any time. Post-purchase experience of the customer is likely to be a extremely pleasurable while offering these services."

The fund has also taken precautions like asking all units holders for a bank account through which all credits would be made. In the event of any error or fraud (even if the CIN number goes to the wrong person) the credits would be made only in the account of recognised unit-holder only.
